Board member expectations and responsibilities
Bridges board members set policy, give strategic direction, and provide for Bridges’ financial well-being. This includes support of fundraising, development of long-term strategic and annual operating plans/budgets, and advocacy and communication with community members, funders, and stakeholders about the Bridges mission and programs. Board members are expected to serve on at least one board committee and assist with one or more fundraising events.
Bridges is looking for prospective board members who can dedicate up to five hours a month for board and committee meetings and other tasks. The board meets on the last Thursday of each month. Monthly board meetings are usually 1 ½ to 2 hours in length. There is also an annual full-day planning meeting.
The length of term is three years.
We expect every Bridges board member to contribute financially to the organization at a level that is personally meaningful to them.
Board member role in fundraising
Each board member is expected to play a role in fundraising, including participation in key fundraising events and helping to identify and secure new and various funding sources.
Process for joining the Bridges board
Before applying to join the board of Bridges, prospective members are encouraged to get a better understanding of the organization: Learn about the mission, programs, and services; talk to current board members; attend one of our events; and join us for a tour of the Nashua or Milford office.
Those who are interested in joining the Bridges board of directors will complete an application and are reviewed by the governance committee. They will also meet with the Bridges executive director. Board members are not required to complete committee work prior to joining the board but may elect to join an event committee as a way to get to know the organization before making the commitment of board service.
